This recipe is for an easy, cilantro hogao (Colombian Tomato Sauce). Hogao is not supposed to have cilantro, if you make it the traditional way. So if you are looking for the traditional hogao recipe, click here.
Hogao is a Colombian condiment. Its traditional ingedients are tomato, green onion and some spices. Contrary to other tomato salsas like Mexican pico de gallo, hogao is a cooked tomato sauce. When I first started making hogao, I used to add cilantro. Honest mistake. I was still learning and thought cilantro was one of the main ingredients. And because I liked it this way, I still regularly make this version of the tomato salsa.
Easy Cilantro Hogao goes well with almost everything. On your arepa in the morning, with patacones, mixed through rice or beans. It is just a really easy way to add flavor to different dishes.
